Spicy Chipotle Chili Hummus

Check out one of my all-time favorite hummus recipes that I enjoy making for my family. It is spicy… we love spicy food in la casa Guerra… it is savory, hearty, and it kind of has a nutty undertone that makes for a great dip or spread on a sandwich! And although the serving size is 6... my husband and I finished it in one night! So keep that in mind if you are a hummus love!

Main Ingredients

1 - 1/2 cups cooked chickpeas, or canned chickpeas

2 large garlic cloves

1/4 cup tahini sauce

3 tbsp fresh lemon juice

2 chipotle chili peppers in adobo sauce, found in a can at your local grocer

2 tbsp water

1 tsp extra virgin olive oil

1/4 tsp spanish paprika

1/4 tsp black pepper

salt to taste


1In a food processor or high powered blender add in chickpeas, garlic cloves, tahini sauce, lemon juice, and 1 large chipotle chill pepper.

2Pulse or blend ingredients together until it resembles a thick paste.

3Next add in water, salt, spanish paprika, and black pepper.

4Pulse again to blend all the ingredients; be sure to use a spatula or spoon to scrape the sides of the food processor or blender, making sure all the seasoning are thoroughly combined.

5Then add in olive oil, and one more chipotle chili pepper.

6Lightly pulse ingredient together so that there are small dices of the last chipotle chili pepper throughout.

7If you're wanting a chilled hummus, refrigerate for 20 minutes; if not, serve right away!

Additional Notes

I topped mine with a little drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkle more of spanish paprika, diced chipotle chili peppers, and fresh cilantro. I also served it with some tortilla chips, but you can also enjoy this hummus with fresh veggie, or as a spread on a sandwich, or you can put a dollop of it on a spinach salad. Either way you choose, you are definitely going to enjoy this recipe!
