Fried Green Tomatoes (vegan)
One of my guilty... but not so guilty pleasures are Fried Green Tomatoes. And these are not your traditional Fried Green Tomaotes! I have honestly been making them this way for quite a few years now. Not only are they vegan (no egg used), but they are flaky, crunchy, and bursting with flavor!! Enjoy these fried tomatoes with my recipe for some delicious vegan sour cream remoulade sauce!

2 green unripe tomatoes
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup almond milk
1/4 cup classic breadcrumbs
1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 tsp salt (or salt to taste)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dry basil
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 cup canola oil for frying
1/4 cup vegan sour cream
1/2 tsp salt (or salt to taste)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp spanish paprika
1 - 1/2 tbsp lemon or lime juice
1Cut tomatoes to desired size.
2Place tomato slices on a paper towel, and sprinkle salt on top. This will help to draw out more moisture from the tomato slices, which will help in the breading step.
3Let tomatoes sit for 10 minutes.
4While the tomatoes are sitting, prepare your remoulade sauce.
5To a bowl add vegan sour cream, salt, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, spanish paprika, and lemon juice. Mix well and refrigerate.
6To prepare the breading station. In a bowl add 1/4 cup flour and set aside.
7then to another bowl add 1/2 cup flour, and 1 cup almond milk. Whisk ingredients together until it resembles a thin pancake batter. Set aside.
8And to the last bowl add in classic breadcrumbs, panko breadcrumbs, salt, garlic powder, dry basil, and cayenne pepper. Mix ingredients together well.
9Next line your dipping bowls together with the flour, batter, and bradcrumb mix.
10Then return back to the tomato slices and pat off any excess water that has sweated out from the salt.
11Take your tomato slices one at a time and dip them into the four, making sure they are thoroughly covered; and shake off any excess.
12Then submerge your tomato slices into the batter mix, and shake off any excess.
13Lastly dip the slices into the breadcrumb mix, make sure the breadcrumbs cover all of the tomato slices, then set aside.
14In a large pan, on medium heat, heat oil and begin frying the tomato slices.
15Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown, then flip and fry again for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
16Once done, place tomato slices on a napkin to soak up any extra oil.
17Serve with the immediately Remoulade sauce, and enjoy!
