Main Ingredients

1 1/3 cup cooked green lentils

3/4 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup shredded carrot

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp ground flax seed

3 tbsp water

1/2 cup almonds, ground into a flour

1/2 cup gluten free rolled oats, ground into a flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp cumin

2 tbsp hemp seeds

1 garlic clove, minced

1 tbsp hummus of choice

4 vegan (or gluten free) burger buns. note: most buns will be vegan, but double check that "milk fat" isn't an ingredient!

optional toppings:

avocado, spinach, tomato, onion, lettuce, kale, ketchup, mustard, vegan mayo, bbq sauce, vegan cheese slices...


1Cook lentils according to package directions. Make sure they are thoroughly cooked through.

2Preheat oven to 325F

3Chop carrot and onion. In a small pan, sauté over medium low heat in 1 tbsp olive oil until soft.

4Prepare flax egg by combining ground flax seed and 3 tbsp water. Set aside.

5In a food processor, process almonds so they are ground to almost resemble a sandy or flour-like texture. Repeat with the oats.

6Add all ingredients to the food processor and process on high for 2-3 minutes until a dough forms.

7Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.

8Using your hands and a spoon, divide the dough into four equal portions. Form into a ball and then flatten into a 1/2 inch thick patty. Place the patty onto the baking sheet and repeat with remaining dough.

9Bake for 15 minutes so the patties solidify. You can then place them on a grill to brown both sides, or fry in a pan.

10Top with your choice of toppings and enjoy!
