Classic Sugar Cookies
Rich and buttery sugar cookies with a hint of nutmeg. These are old-fashioned sugar cookies that are perfect for cutting out. Roll them thin for crisper cookies and thicker for a softer texture.

1 cup (2 sticks) butter
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
optional: tinted frostings, colored sugars and sprinkles
1Cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
2Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.
3Whisk together dry ingredients and gradually add to creamed mixture.
4Chill for 1 hour or until firm.
5Rollout on a lightly floured surface to 1/8” to 1/4” thickness.
6Cut out with cookie cutters and transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet.
7Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
8Decorate with frosting, sugars, and sprinkles or enjoy plain!
9Yield: about 6 dozen medium sized cookies.
